I have heard that it takes several treatments to kill all the hair follicles. Then it is permanent. Hope this helps.

Depending on how much hair and how thick it is, going to one of those clinics it may take you up to 8 months. After that, you won't see any hair again... ever!
Good luck, dear

Maybe what you heard is that it takes 6 months OF TREATMENTS to make the hair stop growing? You go about once every month for 3-8 months (depending on how thick the hair is to begin with). After the hair stops growing completely, it should be permanent. About 35% of the time, however, you will need a touch-up treatment or two, many years down the road. Good luck with laser if you try it! :)

Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal has proved to be a highly popular non-surgical cosmetic procedure. It is a noninvasive, convenient way to permanently reduce unwanted facial or body hair.
Technique
The process takes from several minutes to several hours, depending on the area of the body involved. Laser hair removal uses a low-energy laser. Laser energy passes through the patient閳ユ獨 skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. A percentage of the follicles are instantaneously and permanently disabled with each treatment. No anesthesia is necessary in most cases.
Benefits
A noninvasive, gentle technique that eliminates undesirable hair from all parts of the body
Leaves skin looking smoother and silkier
Treats larger areas effectively because it removes more than one hair at a time
Minimal discomfort
Replaces waxing, electrolysis and razors
Patients can immediately return to normal activities
Other Considerations
Laser hair removal is an ongoing process that requires multiple sessions
Patients might experience a temporary slight reddening of the skin or localized swelling
Specially formulated skin care produces and/or a prescribed skin care regimen may be required
Sunscreen is recommended for any treated areas exposed to the sun
Blonde, white or gray hairs are less responsive to laser treatments and sometimes cannot be treated

mine has been permanent. but I have had to do serveral treatments over the last 6 years to get the desired results that I have been looking for. All literature provided by my dermatologist say that it is permanent.

It is permanent hair reduction. I have had the procedure (6 years ago) and none of the hair in the area returned. From what I understand, hormonal changes can cause inactive follicles that weren't treated to become active in the future.
